Meet Our Team

Vanessa Cañedo, LCSWR

Practice Owner

As the owner of Mindfulness Counseling Services of NY, PLLC, my commitment to providing compassionate care remains unwavering. With over three decades of professional experience as a licensed clinical social worker, I offer effective therapy to individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, and trauma. My expertise also encompasses counseling couples and individuals encountering communication difficulties, life transitions, identity issues, cultural barriers, and relationship stressors.

My practice utilizes an integrative approach that merges several techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Mindfulness. This approach aims to establish a harmonious connection between your body and mind while deepening your understanding of yourself, ultimately cultivating self-empowerment, self-love, and overall well-being. By identifying the drivers of your thoughts and behaviors, we can work together to enhance your emotional intelligence, increase your resilience, and help you achieve your therapeutic goals.

My ultimate goal is for you to strengthen your self-awareness and gain insight into the inner workings of yourself so that you can confidently make empowered choices and live the life you are meant to live.

I believe that we all benefit from having someone in our corner to listen, motivate, challenge us without judgment, and support us through life’s unpredictable changes and challenges. Whether if you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or not embodying the life you want for yourself; know that whatever you are going through, change IS possible, and you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

In my former life as an educator, I had the privilege of working with children with special needs. This enhanced my experience and led me to want to do trauma work. I have 7 years of experience in Trauma-focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Family Systems.

I use a holistic and eclectic therapeutic approach. Using this approach, we will consider different aspects of your life in the quest for health & wellness. This includes your emotional responses to challenges, personal relationships, creative or spiritual outlets, and daily habits and rituals.

Therapist

I believe in a collaborative therapeutic process that provides clients with a safe, respectful, and judgment-free environment to navigate life’s challenges. My method is rooted in the Systems Theory approach, which looks at core relationships and how they impact our view of ourselves in relation to others. I believe that the way we think affects our actions and behaviors, which in turn affects our relationships. I also practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy.

I have worked in a variety of settings including counseling victims of domestic violence, substance abuse, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I have experience running groups, couples therapy, and parent training. I have also worked with children and families that are struggling with family issues and special needs and have assisted in the research of human trafficking.

Social Media Manager/Therapist

As a therapist, I aim to create a safe, stable, friendly, and explorative environment free of judgment. We can explore nearly any thought or feeling you have and find deep, meaningful insight. My approach to psychotherapy is organic and set at a pace where you are comfortable. I support your growth in ways that strengthen understanding and self-awareness in a safe and nonjudgmental environment.

I have extensive experience working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, substance use disorder, relationship challenges, and grief. I don't tie myself to any one approach. Instead, I blend elements from different methods, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Holistic Therapy, to tailor treatment to your needs.
